ABSTRACT

In the 21st century, innovation in teaching writing is needed to develop writing skills for students. This innovation is closely related to the strategies used to teach writing. Therefore, the purposes of this research was to investigate the implementation of Neighborhood Work Strategy in teaching writing at University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri. This is a descriptive qualitative research employing questionnaire and interview. This study involves one lecturer of English Education Department and 29 students. The data collected from interview were presented descriptively and the data from questionnaire were analyzed using percentage computation in the form of graphic. The study found that Neighborhood Work strategy was carried out through four main stages, they are observation to exchange ideas to find out what to write, analysis to study information or find evidence, evaluation to form opinions and make decisions, then to write / compile. The result of the data analysis from quessioner were possitive. Generally, the students enjoyed the Wh-question as guided in prewriting activities. It was made them more interested and active answered the question in learning writing outseide using Neighborhood Work strategy. This stategy facilitated them very well in vocabulary and organizing idea. It can be concluded that Neighborhood Work is a strategy that can be solution in teaching writing for university level.
