ABSTRACT

This research aims to describe how to implement online portofolio assessment  in reading class and students respond when online portofolio is implemented. Portfolio is one of authentic assessment that is the set of collection of work and ability in the learning process. An online portfolio is one kind of digital documentation or collection from student’s work that represent its owner. Personal reflection student’s work, task, achievement, or thoughts is a key component in many online portfolios. The generic structure of the news item is different from another type of texts. News item text consists of newsworthy event, background events, and sources. In the process of learning, many students encountered problems in their reading a news item text. This study was designed by using descriptive qualitative research. The researcher took 15  students as a sample of research. In collecting the data, the researcher did the teaching practice which aims to collect student reading portfolio. The teaching practice was conducted in three time meetings. Student portfolio consists of their works sample in three meetings and their self assessment. The technique of analyzing the data were Data Reduction, Data Display, and conclution. The finding shows thatonline portfolio brings positive impact to student and teacher. For example, student comprehension was increasing every meeting. The increasing was happened because, in portfolio, student was involved in assessment process. Hence, students can know the location of their error, then revise it in the next meeting. Moreover, online portfolio assesment give them opportunity to manage and monitor their own progress. Hence, they are able to know their strength and weakness in their reading comprehension.
