ABSTRACT

Learning English in schools should encourage students to be more creative. English teachers ideally link the competencies taught to the real world, namely how English is used, including writing skills. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the duration and number of face-to-face meetings is very limited, so teachers must look for teaching strategies so that students practice English as well as be creative. Learning writing skills will be more interesting if it is combined with the use of available applications, so that students can develop their ideas. Teachers can take advantage of technology-based learning media, one of which is the Canva Apps. With this application students can be creative and practice writing English at home. Therefore, a study was conducted with the aim at describing the creativity of writing English using the Canva application at SMKN 1 Kediri during the pandemic. This research, which applied a quantitative approach, measured the students’ creativity by assigning them to make greeting cards in English. The researcher used an assessment rubric with indicators of writing fluency, flexibility, originality of the work, and elaboration of the work to measure students’ creativity. The results showed that by using the Canva application, the students’ creativity was very good.
