ABSTRACT

Teaching English, especially to young learners, must be fun and enjoyable. Game is considered as one of the best ways to teach English to young learners. This research aims to describe the implementation of teaching speaking and to find out the result of teaching speaking using games to young learners in Mrican region. The research method used in this research is one-shoot quantitative. One-shoot quantitative viewed by the writer as the one of the most suitable during pandemic situation. The sample in this research is 10 young learners in Mrican region. They consist of 4 students of grade 1-3, and 6 students of grade 4-6. This research carried during independent community service that was held by University of Nusantara PGRI Kediri. During the treatment, the students were splatted into two groups, sorted by their grade. First group was the students of grade 1-3, while the second group was the students of grade 4-6. There were two games played in this research, but each group only played one game. Those games are “Market Game Food and Drink” and “Guessing Game”. The first group did “Market Game Food and Drink”, while “Guessing Game” was conducted by the second group. The result shows that games can be good for teaching speaking to young learners. There was no any pressure felt by the students. They enjoyed the learning process. In addition, the writer found that game could give significance boost for the students to learn new vocabularies. The writer also found that the students tend to ask the teacher more during the learning process. This linked to the second finding
