ABSTRACT

Corona virus disease (Covid-19) has changed all aspects of life, especially in education system. The teaching and learning process is done from home so that the mobilization and direct interaction are limited. Both teachers and students must adapt to this condition because it affects to the students’ skill in learning English. This study aimed to analyse the students’ speaking problems during online class in Covid-19 pandemic. This study is a qualitative research. The subject of this study was 5 students of X IPS 1 of SMAN 3 Kediri in academic year 2020/2021 who got lowest scores. In collecting the data, the researcher utilized WhatsApp Voice Note to record their speaking. The data was collected by the researcher by observing and having interview in September to November 2020. From the study, the researcher found out that the problem faced by the students were on the following areas: grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation mastery. Therefore, in this study, the researcher concluded that the students got difficulties in speaking, especially due to linguistic problems dominating in speaking, namely grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary which became a big challenge for them in online class during Covid-19 pandemic.
